Impact of Microsoft on my life and how I plan to change the society being a Microsoft Student Associate

Microsoft- a world that needs no introduction! Intriguingly, its not just “computer geeks” who know about Microsoft, it's people of all ages and interests. This is probably one of the greatest achievements of this company along with the other ground breaking feats it has made.

I still remember the day when I first walked into the computer lab of my school. I could feel the breeze of excitement flowing through my veins. The first thing that I saw when I sat in front of the computer was a completely white screen with some things here and there. And above all, on top was written “MS Paint”. Being s newbie, as the teacher demonstrated to us the power of Paint, I was enthralled with the amount of creativity and efficiency with which I could carve my imaginations on a computer screen.

Since then, I was gradually introduced to the magnificent world of Microsoft and as time passed by, I came to know more and more about Microsoft and the Windows Operating System. I could create and edit documents, play games like pinball and minesweeper. I thought to myself ”Hey, how can so many things be incorporated into a small screen?”. It was these minuscule questions that led me to explore the world that was then Windows 98.
It would probably seem funny and pointless to talk about an operating system that is now obsolete. Contrastingly though, when Windows 98 was still going strong I felt it was one of the most unique environments to work in

Since then, the journey from Windows 98 to Windows 8.1 has been a great one and with each step Microsoft has always been innovating and making life easier , be it presentations through PowerPoint or documents in Word or Excel and who hasn't herd about the all time favorite- "Skype" ?

Microsoft Encarta-the encyclopaedia provided by Microsoft with its large stock of articles, numerous photos and illustrations, music clips, videos, interactive contents, maps and various other resources was a huge help to me for the preparation of my projects. Although it was available online by annual subscription or by purchase on DVD, many articles could also be viewed online. In 2009, as Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing Encarta, it felt to me like the end of an era. Encarta was one of the best products of Microsoft which I have ever used and I will always miss the ease with which I used to complete all my projects with it.

The “Microsoft Virtual Academy (MVA)” is a great platform for people to learn the various different software provided by Microsoft.

The windows platform has been reduced to our palms with the really efficient Lumia series and Surface tablets.

Today people all over the world are dependent on mainly the phones, tablets and PCs, and of course the Internet. These aspects have changed every person’s life. Now I am heavily dependent on all the resources available and I can proudly say that most of what I have learnt till now has been a gift to me by Microsoft, which I have truly cherished.

How I plan to bring a change in the society
being a Microsoft Student Associate?

Becoming a Microsoft student Associate would mean the world to me. The unique ways through which Microsoft touches people’s lives is one of the main reasons why I want to become an MSA. I believe I possess all the qualities and skills required to help benefit the company. At the same time, I would enjoy interacting with other great personalities in the process.
As said by the former CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates:

We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten. Don't let yourself be lulled into inaction.

It’s not that everyone in the society is aware of the technological advancements that have been taking place in the recent years. The greatest problem being faced right now is that people are reluctant to change and think twice before trying out new technologies. People tend to stick to their old methods. Even in government offices, people are still dependent upon  old files and papers. People are separately hired to deal with issues such as converting paper documents to computer readable formats. As a Microsoft Student Associate, it would my duty to educate the people about the latest advancement in technologies through seminars and orientation programmes so they can be technologically aware and efficient.

“Power is gained by sharing knowledge, not by hoarding it.”

According to Sam Pitroda, “Technology is anything which makes our life easier. But education is extremely necessary to harness technology”, which is something which the people in villages are lacking. As a Microsoft Student Associate, I would try to educate people about the products provided by Microsoft and make people aware about the technological advancements in Information Technology.
I would use this opportunity to organize seminars and workshops in various colleges of my city. Being a Microsoft Student Associate, I would conduct many activities in my college and also the various colleges of my city to make the students aware of the different products provided by Microsoft and the huge amount of knowledge they can gain through these.

Thus, Microsoft has not only helped me in my life but has also inspired me to invent, think, develop and share new ideas in a hope to bring about a difference in the lives of people around me.

I really look forward to using all my potential in helping people to become more aware about Microsoft and its works and products to make the lives of people much easier and the world a better place to live in.
